Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet'

How to grow Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' in NZ

Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' thrives in full sun and well drained soils across NZ. It performs well in poor soils and is especially tolerant of coastal conditions, making it ideal for exposed sites. Avoid planting in heavy, wet soils, which may harm root health. Water regularly during the establishment period, then only in extended dry conditions. With the right care, this shrub quickly forms a stunning ground cover.

Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' care tips

Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' is very low maintenance once established. Prune lightly after flowering to encourage compact, bushy growth and maintain a neat spread. Avoid cutting into old wood, as this may not regenerate. A light application of fertiliser in spring will promote healthy foliage and abundant flowers. Naturally resistant to most pests and diseases, it is well suited to easy care gardening.

Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' size, spacing, and growth rate

Ceanothus 'Blue Carpet' typically grows to around 30 to 40 cm tall and can spread up to 2 m wide. It has a fast growth rate, making it an excellent option for quick coverage of garden areas. For ground cover planting, allow around 1.5 to 2 m spacing between plants. Its low, spreading form ensures it remains compact while effectively filling larger spaces with colour and texture.
