Carmichaelia kirkii Details

Carmichaelia kirkii is a rare and endangered, NZ native, scrambling Broom. It has slender, interlacing branches up to 3 m long that bear inconspicuous leaves. In spring the stems are adorned with delicate, purple-white flowers which are quite unusual in their appearance. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, preferring a moist, semi-shaded position. It will tolerate full sun as well as most soil conditions but will benefit from wind protection. Carmichaelia kirkii is commonly planted en masse on a bank, added to native plantings, or included as something unusual in a mixed planting.
