Carissa Desert Star, commonly known as the Natal Plum, is a shrub grown for its foliage, flowers, and berries. It grows as a rounded mound of lush, mid-green foliage held on spiny stems. The foliage is adorned with small, white flowers during spring which results in dark red berries in autumn. It grows densely to about 2 m tall and the same wide. Carissa Desert Star is commonly added to coastal gardens, trimmed into a hedge, or included in a mixed planting.

Carissa Desert Star, commonly known as the Natal Plum, is a shrub grown for its foliage, flowers, and berries. It grows as a rounded mound of lush, mid-green foliage held on spiny stems. The foliage is adorned with small, white flowers during spring which results in dark red berries in autumn. It grows densely to about 2 m tall and the same wide though can be trimmed as necessary. In favourable environments it may grow significantly larger. This shrub performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site and is tolerant of coastal environments, extended dry periods, and frost. Carissa Desert Star is commonly added to coastal gardens, trimmed into a hedge, or included in a mixed planting.
