How to grow Camellia 'Water Lily' in NZ

Camellia 'Water Lily' grows best in part shade with shelter from strong winds and hot afternoon sun. Plant in well drained slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. It performs well across New Zealand in protected positions. Water regularly during establishment so the soil stays evenly moist but not waterlogged. Mulch to retain moisture and keep the root zone cool.

Camellia 'Water Lily' care tips

Camellia 'Water Lily' is easy to maintain with simple care. Water during dry periods especially in summer and apply a camellia fertiliser in spring and early summer. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages dense growth. Remove spent blooms if desired and ensure good airflow to reduce disease and keep foliage healthy.

Camellia 'Water Lily' size, spacing, and growth rate

Camellia 'Water Lily' typically grows to about 2 to 3 metres in height and 1.5 to 2 metres in width. Space plants around 1 to 1.5 metres apart for hedging or allow more room when used as a feature plant. It has a moderate growth rate and develops into a dense upright shrub that responds well to occasional trimming.
