Camellia 'EG Waterhouse'

How to grow Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' in NZ

Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' thrives in a sheltered position with morning sun or light shade. Plant in free draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter to support healthy root development. Avoid heavy soils that remain wet during winter and protect from strong winds. In cooler regions of NZ, provide frost protection while young. Water regularly during establishment and apply mulch to maintain even soil moisture year round.

Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' care tips

Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' is relatively easy care once established. Keep the soil consistently moist during dry periods but avoid waterlogged conditions. Feed in early spring with a camellia fertiliser to promote strong growth and abundant flowering. Light pruning after flowering will help maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove spent blooms and damaged branches promptly, and refresh mulch annually to support healthy roots.

Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' size, spacing, and growth rate

Camellia 'EG Waterhouse' typically grows to around 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide in NZ conditions. It forms a strong upright shrub that can be shaped for hedging or maintained as a feature plant. Space plants approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart to allow for airflow and mature development. The growth rate is moderate to fast when planted in suitable soil and provided with regular feeding.
