Camellia 'Donation'

How to grow Camellia 'Donation' in NZ

Camellia 'Donation' thrives in a sheltered position with morning sun or light shade. Plant in free draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter to encourage strong root development. Avoid heavy soils that remain wet through winter and protect from strong winds. In cooler parts of NZ, provide frost protection while plants are young. Water regularly during establishment and apply mulch to maintain even soil moisture.

Camellia 'Donation' care tips

Camellia 'Donation' is relatively easy care once established. Keep the soil evenly moist during dry periods but avoid waterlogged conditions. Feed in early spring with a camellia fertiliser to promote healthy foliage and abundant flowering. Light pruning after flowering will help maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove spent blooms and any damaged branches promptly, and refresh mulch annually to support root health.

Camellia 'Donation' size, spacing, and growth rate

Camellia 'Donation' typically grows to around 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide in NZ conditions. It forms an upright, bushy shrub that can be shaped for hedging or maintained as a feature plant. Space plants approximately 1.5 to 2 metres apart to allow for airflow and mature growth. The growth rate is moderate, with steady annual development when planted in suitable soil and given regular feeding.

Landscaping uses for Camellia 'Donation'

Camellia 'Donation' is ideal for flowering hedges, privacy screens, or feature planting in mixed borders. Its soft pink blooms blend beautifully with evergreen shrubs and white flowering companions, suiting both formal and cottage style landscapes.
