“Sugar and Spice” is a variety of Camellia grown for its fragrant, semi-double, clear pink flowers through winter and spring. It bears glossy, green leaves which complement the flowers nicely. This evergreen shrub grows relatively compactly with an upright habit to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic, and is tolerant of frost once established as well as cool, and humid climates. “Sugar and Spice” is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
