Camellia 'Cotton Candy'

How to grow Camellia 'Cotton Candy' in NZ

Camellia 'Cotton Candy' thrives in a sheltered spot with morning sun or light shade. Plant in free draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter for best performance. Avoid exposed windy areas and sites that remain wet through winter. In cooler parts of NZ, protect young plants from heavy frost. Water regularly during the establishment phase and apply mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Camellia 'Cotton Candy' care tips

Camellia 'Cotton Candy' is relatively easy care once established. Keep the soil evenly moist during dry periods but avoid waterlogging. Feed in spring with a camellia fertiliser to support strong growth and abundant flowering. Light pruning after flowering will help maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth. Remove any spent blooms and damaged branches promptly, and refresh mulch annually to keep the roots cool and healthy.

Camellia 'Cotton Candy' size, spacing, and growth rate

Camellia 'Cotton Candy' typically grows to around 2.5 metres tall and 2 metres wide in NZ conditions. It has an upright, bushy habit that responds well to shaping if required. Space plants about 1.5 to 2 metres apart when planting as a hedge or screen to allow for airflow and mature growth. The growth rate is moderate, with steady development each season in suitable soil and light conditions.
