Growing Camellia sasanqua Hiryu Successfully in NZ

Camellia sasanqua Hiryu thrives in NZ's climate with well-drained soil. Be sure to plant it in full sun or partial shade on a site with plenty of moisture during summer. Wind protection will help produce a better plant overall, and we recommend staking the plants for added security.

Camellia sasanqua Hiryu Care Tips

Plant Camellia sasanqua Hiryu in a sheltered spot with dappled light or full sun. The soil should be slightly acidic and must be free-draining. Water regularly during dry periods, especially while establishing. Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly after flowering to shape the plant and remove dead or damaged wood. Feed with acid-loving fertiliser in spring.

What size and height does the Camellia sasanqua Hiryu shrub grow to?

The Camellia sasanqua Hiryu shrub grows to a size of about 2.5 metres tall and 2 metres wide. A shrub of this size can be trimmed as necessary, which not only contains growth but also makes the plant bushier and can stimulate increased flowering. Any trimming is best undertaken after flowering.
