Camellia sasanqua 'Hiryu' grows best in a sheltered position with fertile well drained slightly acidic soil. In New Zealand gardens it performs particularly well in areas protected from strong afternoon sun and drying winds. Choose a location with morning sun or light shade so the plant develops healthy foliage and produces abundant flowers. Water regularly while the plant establishes so the root system develops strongly.
