Camellia japonica Great Eastern is an evergreen shrub that produces large and showy, double, red flowers with a pink undertone during spring and autumn. The foliage is glossy, dark green, and quite appealing in its own right. It grows relatively compactly to about 1.2 m tall and 1.8 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of cool and humid climates as well as moderate frost once established.
