“Crimson King” is an evergreen shrub that produces fragrant, single, bright red flowers in abundance from spring through summer. These spectacular blooms blend well with the glossy, green foliage. It grows relatively compactly to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will grow well in partial shade conditions but tends to be more open and can result in less prolific flowering. This Camellia is tolerant of cool climates and moderate frost once established but does require a slightly acidic soil. “Crimson King” is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, added to a mixed planting, used in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. It is also well suited to being maintained in a container. For hedging space plants 60 cm apart.
