Camellia Bonanza is renowned for its masses of red-pink, semi-double flowers in spring and autumn. It produces semi-glossy, green leaves and grows to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Growing Camellia Bonanza Successfully in NZ

Camellia Bonanza thrives in part shade or full sun on well-drained, acidic soil. Protect from strong winds and stake the plants to reduce the chances of wind damage. Staking will also help grow straighter and better-formed plants. Mulch annually and water during dry spells to keep the plants flourishing. In spring, apply fertiliser for acid-loving plants across the soil surface.

Camellia Bonanza Care Tips

Plant Camellia Bonanza in a sheltered spot with dappled light or full sun. The soil should be slightly acidic and must be free-draining. Water regularly during dry periods, especially while establishing. Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly after flowering to shape the plant and remove dead or damaged wood. Feed with acid-loving fertiliser in spring.

Plant Size and Spacing

Camellia Bonanza typically grows to 1.5-2 metres tall and 1.2-1.5 metres wide. For discrete plants, space plants at least 1.5 metres apart. Planting them closer together will see them merging (depending on the spacing). For hedging, the ideal spacing is 50 cm apart so the plants merge and push each other upwards. This variety's compact size makes it perfect for hedging, borders, or container planting in sheltered garden areas.
