‘Avalanche’ is a variety of Camellia that produces large and showy, semi-double, cream-white flowers from late winter through early spring amidst the glossy green foliage. This evergreen shrub grows with an upright and spreading habit as it reaches 2.5 m tall and 1.5 m wide. It grows best in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic, and is tolerant of cool and humid climates, and moderate frost once established. Camellia ‘Avalanche’ is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, added to a mixed planting, used in cottage and “white” gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. It is also well suited to being maintained in a container and for topiary.
