Commonly known as the Cushion Bush, Calocephalus brownii is an impressive Australian native grown for its colourful stems and great form. It produces silver stems which grow with a twisted manner and result in the plant having a ball shape, hence its common name. Tiny, silver-grey leaves are held tightly against the stems. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in fill sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, coastal conditions, wind, and extended dry periods. The Cushion Bush is commonly included in a mixed or border planting, used to line an entranceway, planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like, maintained in a container, used in Mediterranean themed gardens, or planted anywhere this unusual looking plant can be appreciated.
