Callistemon Rocky Rambler

Red Bottlebrush

Callistemon Rocky Rambler is a dwarf variety of the commonly known, Bottlebrush, and is grown for its flowers and short stature. Showy, bright red, bottlebrush-like flowers, which literally coat the plant, are produced from spring through summer. The flowers are complemented with small and narrow leaves that are mid-green and held somewhat densely as it grows to about 40 cm tall and 1 m wide. Callistemon Rocky Rambler is commonly included in a mixed planting, used in borders and rock gardens, or grown in a container. It also suits being mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank and looks amazing in both situations.

How to grow Callistemon Rocky Rambler

To grow Callistemon 'Rocky Rambler', choose a full sun spot with well-drained soil, as this low-growing variety needs plenty of sunlight for dense, healthy growth. Improve the soil with organic compost before planting to give it a nutrient boost. Water regularly during the first year to help the plant establish, then reduce watering once it is mature, as 'Rocky Rambler' becomes highly drought-tolerant. Light pruning after flowering will encourage a tighter, more compact form and promote more blooms. Fertilise with a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser in spring to maintain vibrant foliage and abundant flowering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the stem to prevent rot. 'Rocky Rambler' stays naturally compact, growing only about 30 to 50 centimetres tall and spreading up to 2 metres wide, making it excellent for groundcovers, banks, and mass plantings where a carpet of soft pink bottlebrush flowers is desired.
