Masses of large, red flowers are borne from spring through autumn and are held off pendulous branches as it grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide. Callistemon Red Willow makes for a great screening and shelter plant, a lovely specimen, or a fantastic addition to a mixed planting.

How to grow the Callistemon Red Willow bottlebrush

To grow Callistemon Red Willow, plant it in a sunny position with well-drained soil, as it thrives best in full sun and tolerates a variety of soil types, including clay and sandy loam. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish deep roots, then reduce watering as the plant becomes drought-tolerant. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping the mulch clear of the trunk. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage more blooms. Apply a low-phosphorus, native-plant fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and vibrant flowering.
