Callistemon pallidus

Lemon Bottlebrush

Callistemon pallidus, commonly known as Lemon Bottlebrush, features masses of showy, cream-coloured flower spikes though spring and summer. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and the same wide, but is often pruned back to just behind the flowers after the spring flush. Callistemon pallidus is an easy to grow and relatively low maintenance plant that is commonly used in mixed plantings, grown as a small specimen, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, planted around outdoor living areas, or planted to attract wildlife.

How to grow the Callistemon pallidus bottlebrush

To grow Callistemon pallidus, plant it in a sunny position with well-drained soil, as it thrives best in full sun and tolerates a variety of soil types, including clay and sandy loam. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish deep roots, then reduce watering as the plant becomes drought-tolerant. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping the mulch clear of the trunk. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape and encourage more blooms. Apply a low-phosphorus, native-plant fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and vibrant flowering.
