How to grow Callistemon Kings Park Special

To grow Callistemon 'Kings Park Special', choose a sunny, open location with well-drained soil, as full sun is essential for strong growth and maximum flowering. Improve the soil before planting with compost or organic matter to boost nutrient levels and support early root development. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system; once established, it is drought-tolerant and only needs occasional watering during extended dry spells. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a dense, tidy form and encourage more blooms. Apply a low-phosphorus, slow-release fertiliser for Australian natives in early spring to keep the plant healthy and flowering vigorously. Mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds, making sure to keep mulch away from the main stem. 'Kings Park Special' is a fast-growing shrub or small tree that can reach 3 to 5 metres tall, and it is celebrated for its spectacular, large bright red bottlebrush flowers that attract birds and pollinators.
