Callistemon Burgundy Jack is a bottlebrush that produces masses of large, deep burgundy-violet flowers in spring and autumn. This bottlebrush typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. This bottlebrush is commonly added to a mixed planting, planted around outdoor living areas, mass planted on a bank, or planted to provide vibrant colour.

How to grow Callistemon Burgundy Jack

To grow Callistemon 'Burgundy Jack', choose a sunny location with well-drained soil, as this cultivar thrives in full sun and tolerates a range of soils including sandy and clay types. Before planting, mix organic compost into the soil to enrich it and support strong early growth. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish the roots, then reduce watering once the plant is established, as it is drought-tolerant. 'Burgundy Jack' benefits from a light prune after flowering to maintain a dense, bushy shape and encourage more blooms. Apply a slow-release, low-phosphorus fertiliser formulated for Australian natives in early spring to support flowering and health. It tolerates light frosts, coastal conditions, and even moderate wind exposure. Mulch around the base (but not against the stem) to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Known for its deep burgundy-red bottlebrush flowers, 'Burgundy Jack' is excellent for hedging, screening, or adding colour to garden beds.
