Buxus sempervirens variegata is a popular for adding colour and contrast in NZ gardens. It grows to about 1 m tall and the same wide, though is often keep smaller with trimming which encourages new growth. It grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It does well on most soil types, except at the extremes of wet and dry, and will tolerate frost and cool climates. Buxus sempervirens variegata is ideal for topiary, trimming into a formal hedge, maintaining in a container, or including in a mixed planting. For a box hedge, space plants 30 cm apart.
