Buxus microphylla Details

Buxus microphylla, commonly known as Japanese Box, Littleleaf Box, or Boxwood, is a small, evergreen shrub that makes for an amazing, formal hedge. It features small, bright green leaves which age to dark green. The leaves are held on short stems as it grows to 2 m tall and the same wide. This Boxwood is often trimmed to smaller sizes which increases the denseness of the plant and encourages new growth. It can be trimmed anywhere between 50 cm and 1.25 m tall for hedging. Best results with this Buxus are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of most soil types, barring extreme wet and dry, moderate frost, and cool climates. Buxus microphylla is often trimmed into a formal hedge, included in a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. The ideal spacing for a Japanese box hedge is 25 cm apart.
