Buxus ‘Buttercup’ is a Boxwood variety grown for its colourful and dense foliage. New leaves emerge light green and are a great complement for the older, darker green leaves. It grows with a globular shape to about 1 m tall and the same wide, though it is often trimmed into a hedge 50-75 cm tall. It grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal environments, and most soil types, except the extremes of wet and dry. Buxus ‘Buttercup’ is commonly trimmed into a small hedge for borders, used for topiary, or maintained in a container. The ideal spacing for a box hedge in NZ is 25-30 cm apart.
