Commonly known as the Buttonbush, this is a graceful, small shrub featuring narrow, light green, feathery leaves, tightly arranged on “wispy” stems. The common name comes from the round, button-like clusters of cream coloured flowers produced from winter through summer at the ends of stems. The flowers are followed by attractive, green seed heads that can remain on the plant for several years. This evergreen typically grows to 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to periods of dry as well as frost and cool climates. This unusual, yet striking plant looks great in mixed plantings with the flower heads often used in floral arrangements.
