Banksia robur Details

Banksia robur, commonly known as Swamp Banksia, is an evergreen shrub that is renowned for its amazing flowers and lush foliage. It produces a cylindrical spike of dark brown flowers, upwards of 40 cm long. These are produced through winter and spring and sit neatly with the large and lush foliage. The flowers are great for attracting birds, which rely on the autumn nectar for food. The Swamp Banksia typically grows to 2 m tall and 3 m wide, through it can be contained with trimming as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun position on a well-drained site. While it is hardy to moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments, some protection while it establishes will produce a much better specimen. Banksia robur is a fantastic plant for mixed plantings, coastal gardens, and for bringing both colour and wildlife into the garden.
