The dark green, needle like leaves are held densely and serve as a lovely backdrop to the flowers. Together the foliage and flowers make this a very handsome shrub. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments, dry periods, and frost.
