“Birthday Candles” is a small shrub grown for its foliage and flowers. It produces orange-yellow flower spikes up to 20 cm long from autumn through until spring. The dark green, needle like leaves are held densely and serve as a lovely backdrop to the flowers. Together the foliage and flowers make this a very handsome shrub. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and 1.2 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments, dry periods, and frost. “Birthday Candles” is commonly included in rock gardens, used in mixed plantings and borders, maintained in a container, planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and dining spaces, or mass planted for a fantastic display.
