Banksia aemula Details

Banksia aemula, commonly known as Wallum Banksia, is an evergreen shrub that is renowned for its amazing flowers. It produces a cylindrical spike of cream-coloured flowers, upwards of 30 cm long. These are produced through winter and spring and sit neatly with the mid-green foliage. The flowers are great for attracting birds, which rely on the autumn nectar for food. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 2.5 m wide, through can be contained with trimming as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun position on a well-drained site. While it is hardy to moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments, some protection while it establishes will produce a much better specimen. Banksia aemula is a fantastic plant for mixed plantings, coastal gardens, and for bringing both colour and wildlife into the garden.
