Baccharis pilularis (Coyote Bush) Details

Commonly known as Coyote Bush, this is an evergreen shrub grown for its hardy nature, flowers, and insect attracting properties. When grown in exposed, coastal conditions It forms a mound of dense, dark green foliage as it grows to about 40 cm tall and 1 m wide. Inland, it will grow to 2 m tall and the same wide with somewhat larger and glossier leaves. Small, white flowers are produced from late summer and into autumn on female plants and these attract both bees and butterflies. It grows best in full sun on a well-drained soil and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, and coastal environments. This plant can be used as a groundcover in exposed locations or included into a mixed planting with the added benefit of attracting beneficial insects.
