“Wards Ruby” is a variety of Azalea grown for its lovely form and profuse flowering. This hardy, evergreen shrub produces masses of glowing, ruby red blooms through winter and spring. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide, and performs best when planted in a semi-shade or full sun position on a well-drained, sheltered site. When grown in full sun it does tend to be more compact. Plants are tolerant of frost and cool climates but do require good soil moisture levels during dry periods. When fertilising, avoid using lime as this will stunt or even kill plants. “Wards Ruby” is a great choice for container growing, planting around the base of trees and larger shrubs, including in a mixed planting, using in a cottage garden, or including anywhere a stunning plant is required.
