Azalea 'Scarlet Prince'

How to grow Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' in NZ

Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' grows best in part shade with moist, free draining, slightly acidic soil. Choose a sheltered position protected from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds to encourage healthy growth and prolific flowering. Incorporating compost or organic matter into the soil at planting time improves moisture retention and supports healthy root development. Water regularly during dry periods while the plant establishes. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture, maintain cool root conditions, and suppress weeds throughout the warmer months.

Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' care tips

Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' is relatively low maintenance and rewards gardeners with reliable flowering every spring. Water consistently during extended dry periods, especially while young plants establish strong roots. Feed with an azalea fertiliser after flowering to support healthy foliage and encourage flower production for the following season. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain a compact tidy shape and promotes dense branching. Removing spent flowers where practical keeps the plant looking fresh while directing energy into healthy new growth and continued flowering.

Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' size, spacing, and growth rate

Azalea 'Scarlet Prince' typically grows to around 80 cm to 1.2 metres tall and wide with a dense rounded habit.
