“Red Poppy” is a very colourful variety of Azalea. This hardy, evergreen shrub produces masses of showy, semi-double, deep red flowers with a satin sheen from winter through spring. The flowers are complemented with glossy, dark green leaves. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, preferring a full sun or partial shade position that is well-drained, slightly acidic, semi-sheltered, and does not dry out. It is tolerant of moderate frost and coastal environments but intolerant of lime which can cause serious damage to plants and even death. “Red Poppy” makes a fantastic addition to a mixed or border planting, and is great for providing a splash of colour to a garden. It suits being planted around outdoor living areas, growing in a container, and also being mass planted. This is a rewarding plant that is low maintenance and easy to grow.
