Azalea Melford Flame is a popular variety due to its colourful and profuse flowering. This hardy, deciduous shrub produces masses of bright red-orange flowers with an orange-yellow flare from winter until late spring. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide, growing best when planted in a semi-shade or full sun position on a well-drained, sheltered site. When grown in full sun it tends to be more compact. Plants are tolerant of frost and cold environments but do require good soil moisture levels during dry periods. When fertilising, avoid using lime as this will stunt or even kill plants. Azalea Melford Flame is a great choice for container growing, adding to a mixed or border planting, planting around outdoor living areas, or using anywhere a stunning plant is required. A mass planting produces an amazing display.
