“Happy Days” is a variety of Azalea grown for its lovely form and profuse flowering. This hardy, evergreen shrub produces masses of lightly scented, bright purple, double flowers from winter until late spring. These are held against the glossy, dark green foliage which serves as a lovely backdrop to the flowers. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide, growing best when planted in a semi-shade or full sun position on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates but does require good soil moisture levels during dry periods and should be protected from harsh frost while establishing. When fertilising, avoid using lime as this will stunt or even kill plants. “Happy Days” is a great choice for container growing, adding to a mixed planting, using in borders, planting around the base of larger trees, or planting anywhere a stunning plant is required. Cluster planting is very trendy and gives a very colourful display.
