“Fire Tower” is a variety of Azalea grown for its short stature and vibrant flowers. This hardy, evergreen shrub produces masses of lightly scented, single, fiery orange flowers from winter until late spring. These are held against the glossy, dark green foliage which serves as a lovely backdrop. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and the same wide, preferring a semi-shade or full sun position and a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates but does require good soil moisture levels during dry periods and should be protected from harsh frost while establishing. When fertilising avoid using lime as this will stunt or even kill plants. “Fire Tower” is a great choice for container growing, adding to a mixed planting, using in borders, planting around the base of larger trees, or planting anywhere a stunning plant is required. Cluster planting is very trendy and gives a tremendous and colourful display.
