Small, green figs are produced in autumn and ripen to become purple. It grows with a broad and rounded habit, reaching approximately 12 m in height and 7 m in width, and can be trimmed as necessary. Growing Ficus auriculata Successfully in NZ

Ficus auriculata grows best in warm, frost-free areas of New Zealand. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with free-draining soil rich in organic matter. Water regularly during dry periods, especially while young, and mulch to retain moisture. This subtropical tree prefers consistent warmth and may need protection from cold in cooler regions. Prune lightly to shape and remove dead wood. It can also be grown in large containers in areas prone to frost.

Plant in a sunny, sheltered location with well-draining, fertile soil. Water deeply during dry spells, especially in summer, and apply mulch to conserve soil moisture.
