Aucuba Picturata, commonly known as the Japanese Laurel Plant or Japanese Aucuba, is a large and colourful shrub that features dark green leaves splashed with yellow. The lush foliage is adorned with small, star shaped, purple flowers in spring which result in bright green berries that age to bright red in winter. This evergreen typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of heavy shade, moderate frost, and dry periods, though young plants should be protected while they are establishing. This Japanese Laurel plant is great for providing vibrant colour to a garden, for trimming into a hedge, or for providing winter interest.
