Aucuba japonica longifolia Salicifolia Details

Aucuba japonica longifolia Salicifolia is a variety of Aucuba featuring soft, slender, dark green, lance-shaped leaves up to 25 cm long. It grows as a dense, rounded shrub to about 3 m tall and the same wide. Clusters of small, dark purple flowers in spring are followed by dark crimson-red berries in autumn. The berries turn a rather dull plant into something quite impressive. It is tolerant of most soil types and also coastal environments, windy positions, and near drought conditions. That said, it prefers a partial shade position on a well-drained site. Aucuba japonica Salicifolia is commonly used for hedging, as a backdrop for smaller plants, as a specimen, or grown in a container. It is also great for planting around the barbecue area to provide both shelter and privacy.
