Astartea fascicularis is a shrub grown for its cascading foliage and pretty flowers. Its growth habit depends on whether it is grown in sheltered or windy conditions. In exposed sites it will generally grow with a low and layered habit. In protected sites it will tend to be taller and have fewer stems. New stems are red and turn grey with age. They host small, green leaves which have a spicy scent when bruised. The flowers are borne along the branches and are usually white, or sometimes pale pink. It has a neat and fresh appearance throughout the year and flowers almost year round. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide in most gardens and can be trimmed as necessary. It is a plant which will withstand frost, drought and wind although in harsh situations it tends to become a stiff shrub with just a few branches. This shrub is commonly grown as a specimen, included in mixed planting, or trimmed into a low hedge.
