Alseuosmia macrophylla, commonly known as Toropapa or Karapapa, is shrub with glossy green leaves and typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. The foliage is adorned in early spring with fragrant, dark red flowers, about 4 cm that are followed by red berries in autumn. Alseuosmia macrophylla grows naturally in shaded conditions so is ideal for planting beneath larger trees and shrubs. It is great for including in mixed plantings or including anywhere the scented flowers can be enjoyed. It does require a well-drained site and protection from wind when young.
