“Red” is a variety of Abutilon that features showy, intense red, lantern-shaped flowers which are produced from spring through autumn. The leaves are dark green and blend nicely with the flowers. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. This lovely plant will grow equally well in full sun or partial shade and is tolerant of moderate frost and cool climates. It will generally remain evergreen but may loses its leaves in cooler environments through winter but will regrow again when conditions warm in spring. “Red” is commonly included in mixed plantings, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, maintained in a container, planted around outdoor living areas, or included in cottage gardens.
