Abelia grandiflora, commonly known as Glossy Abelia, is grown for its lovely flowers and attractive foliage. This easy to grow plant produces masses of mauve and white flowers in clusters throughout summer. The foliage comprises finely textured, glossy, green leaves held on arching, red-brown stems. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide, though can be trimmed as necessary which will stimulate new growth. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of medium frost, dry periods, and moderate wind. This Glossy Abelia is a fantastic plant for adding variety and colour to the landscape. Abelia grandiflora is commonly trimmed into a hedge, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, included in cottage gardens, or used as a stunning backdrop for smaller plants.
