Abelia grandiflora ‘Francis Mason’ is an elegant variety of Abelia which is grown for its colourful leaves and dainty flowers. The foliage comprises finely textured, yellow leaves which turn green as they age, resulting in a plant with dual colouring. The foliage on this Glossy Abelia is complemented with masses of small, white flowers tinged with pink during summer and autumn. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of moderate frost, cool climates, and dry periods. Abelia ‘Francis Mason’ is a fantastic plant for adding variety and colour, and for this reason it is often used in mixed plantings, trimmed into a hedge, planted around outdoor living areas, included in cottage gardens, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. It readily blends with most plant combinations, making it a popular choice with landscapers.
