Sedum 'Gold Mound' is grown for its colourful foliage and creeping growth habit. It forms a carpet of small, succulent, golden leaves. These are held as clusters on stems that creep across the ground to spring up new clusters. It typically grows to 15 cm in height and 30 cm in width, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. Sedum 'Gold Mound' is commonly grown in a container, used in rock gardens, or grown along the edge of a path where it can spill out. It is also well-suited for planting around outdoor living areas.

How to grow Sedum mexicanum 'Gold Mound' in NZ

Sedum mexicanum 'Gold Mound' is easy to grow in most parts of New Zealand. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. This succulent thrives in drier conditions and is ideal for rockeries, borders, and containers. Avoid overwatering, especially in cooler months. Prune lightly to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh growth. It's frost-tolerant in sheltered spots and can be propagated easily from cuttings. An excellent low-maintenance ground cover for sunny spaces.

Sedum 'Gold Mound' care tips

Sedum 'Gold Mound' prefers full sun to partial shade and free-draining soil. Water sparingly, only when the soil is dry, to prevent root rot. It thrives in dry, low-fertility conditions and does not need fertiliser. Trim back any leggy growth to keep the plant compact and neat. Protect from heavy frost if grown in exposed areas. It is a hardy, low-maintenance option for sunny garden spaces.
