Rose 'Truly Special' Standard

How to grow Rose 'Truly Special' Standard in NZ

Grow Rose 'Truly Special' Standard in full sun in fertile, well drained soil. Choose a site with at least six hours of sunlight each day and enough shelter from strong winds to protect the flowering head. Mix compost into the planting area, plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot, and water thoroughly. Install a sturdy stake at planting time to support the stem, securing it with soft ties. Keep the soil evenly moist while the roots establish and mulch around the base. A sunny well prepared site will encourage healthy growth and plentiful flowers.

Rose 'Truly Special' Standard care tips

Rose 'Truly Special' Standard benefits from regular watering, feeding, pruning, and secure staking. Water deeply during dry periods, particularly through the first growing season, and feed in spring with a quality rose fertiliser. Apply a second light feed after the first main flowering flush to support repeat blooms. Remove spent flowers promptly and prune the flowering head in winter to remove dead, weak, or crossing stems. Check the stake and ties regularly, loosening them as the trunk grows. Refresh mulch annually to conserve moisture and support healthy soil around the root zone.

Rose 'Truly Special' Standard size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'Truly Special' Standard is usually supplied with a clear stem of about 80 cm to 90 cm, topped by a rounded flowering head that develops to around 80 cm to 1 m wide. Allow about 1 m to 1.2 m between plants for good airflow and room to appreciate the form. Growth is moderate in a sunny well prepared position, with the head becoming fuller as it establishes. The overall height creates useful vertical interest in borders and containers. Regular pruning of the crown helps Rose 'Truly Special' Standard retain a balanced shape and produce fresh flowering wood.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'Truly Special' Standard

Rose 'Truly Special' Standard is ideal for formal gardens, entranceways, feature beds, patio pots, and planting beside paths. The clear stem lifts the flowers above lower planting, creating a graceful focal point with excellent visual structure. Use a pair to frame a doorway or path, or plant several at even intervals for a classic formal effect. Underplant with low flowering plants or neat evergreen foliage to highlight the stem and crown. Rose 'Truly Special' Standard brings height, elegance, and long lasting seasonal colour to outdoor spaces where a feature plant is wanted.
