Rose 'Paola'

How to grow Rose 'Paola' in NZ

Grow Rose 'Paola' in full sun with fertile, free draining soil and good airflow. Choose a sheltered site that receives at least six hours of sunshine each day to encourage healthy foliage and abundant flowering. Improve the planting area with compost, set the root ball level with the surrounding soil, and water deeply after planting. Keep the soil evenly moist while the rose establishes, especially during warm and dry periods. Apply organic mulch around the base, keeping it clear of the stems, to retain moisture, reduce weeds, and support strong root growth.

Rose 'Paola' care tips

Rose 'Paola' benefits from regular feeding, deep watering, deadheading, and winter pruning to maintain strong growth and repeat flowering. Apply a specialised rose fertiliser in spring and summer according to label directions. Water at soil level during dry periods, allowing moisture to soak deeply around the roots. Remove spent flowers promptly to encourage another flush of blooms through autumn. In winter, prune out weak, damaged, and crossing stems, then shorten the remaining growth to form a tidy, balanced framework. Good airflow and regular monitoring help keep the foliage healthy and attractive.

Rose 'Paola' size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'Paola' typically grows about 1.2 m tall and 80 cm wide, forming an upright shrub that sits beautifully in traditional rose beds and sunny borders. Allow around 70 cm to 90 cm between plants so each rose has room to develop, maintain good airflow, and be easily cared for. Growth is moderate to vigorous in fertile soil with regular watering and feeding, especially through spring and summer. Winter pruning promotes fresh new growth and plenty of flowering stems. Its practical size makes Rose 'Paola' suitable for borders, rose gardens, and large decorative containers.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'Paola'

Rose 'Paola' is ideal for rose gardens, mixed borders, cottage gardens, containers, and planting near paths or outdoor living areas. Its soft pink flowers create a refined, romantic effect and work beautifully with white, blue, silver, and green foliage plants. Plant several together for a formal display, or use one as a graceful focal point among perennials and shrubs. Its upright habit is especially useful for adding height within a border. Rose 'Paola' also provides long stemmed flowers that are excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.
