Rose 'LD Braithwaite'

How to grow Rose 'LD Braithwaite' in NZ

Grow Rose 'LD Braithwaite' in full sun with fertile, free draining soil and good airflow. Choose a sheltered position that receives at least six hours of sunshine daily to encourage healthy growth and plentiful blooms. Prepare the planting area with compost, set the root ball level with the surrounding soil, and water deeply after planting. Keep the soil evenly moist while the rose establishes, particularly during warm and dry periods. Apply organic mulch around the base, keeping it clear of the stems, to retain moisture, reduce weeds, and support healthy root growth.

Rose 'LD Braithwaite' care tips

Rose 'LD Braithwaite' benefits from regular feeding, deep watering, deadheading, and winter pruning to maintain strong growth and repeat flowering. Apply a specialised rose fertiliser in spring and summer according to label directions. Water at soil level during dry periods, allowing moisture to soak deeply around the roots. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooms through autumn. In winter, prune out weak, damaged, and crossing stems, then shorten the remaining growth to form a tidy, balanced framework. Good airflow and regular monitoring help keep the foliage healthy and attractive.

Rose 'LD Braithwaite' size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'LD Braithwaite' typically grows about 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide, forming a rounded, bushy shrub with a strong garden presence. Allow around 80 cm to 1 m between plants so each rose has room to develop naturally, maintains good airflow, and can be easily cared for. Growth is moderate to vigorous in fertile soil with regular watering and feeding, especially through spring and summer. Winter pruning promotes fresh new growth and flowering stems. Its manageable size makes Rose 'LD Braithwaite' ideal for borders, rose beds, and larger decorative containers.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'LD Braithwaite'

Rose 'LD Braithwaite' is ideal for rose gardens, mixed borders, cottage gardens, containers, and sunny feature planting. Its deep crimson red flowers create rich colour and a dramatic focal point, especially when paired with silver, white, blue, or soft green foliage plants. Plant several together for a bold flowering display, or use a single plant to anchor a border with classic rose character. Position it near paths, entrances, or outdoor living areas where the flowers can be enjoyed. The full blooms are also excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.
