Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard

How to grow Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard in NZ

Grow Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard in full sun in fertile, well drained soil. Choose a site with at least six hours of direct sunlight daily and protection from strong winds that could damage the stem or flowering head. Improve the planting area with compost, plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot, and water thoroughly. Install a sturdy stake at planting time, securing the trunk with soft ties. Keep the soil evenly moist while the rose establishes and mulch around the base. A sunny well prepared position will encourage vigorous healthy growth and abundant golden flowers.

Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard care tips

Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard benefits from regular watering, feeding, pruning, and firm support. Water deeply during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and feed in spring with a quality rose fertiliser. Apply a second light feed after the first main flowering flush to support further blooms. Remove spent flowers to encourage repeat flowering and prune the crown in winter to remove dead, weak, or crossing growth. Check the stake and ties regularly so the trunk remains supported without being restricted. Refresh mulch annually to conserve moisture and maintain healthy soil around the roots.

Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard is usually supplied with a clear stem of about 80 cm to 90 cm, topped by a rounded flowering head that develops to around 80 cm to 1 m wide. Allow about 1 m to 1.2 m between plants for good airflow and room to appreciate the form. Growth is moderate in a sunny well prepared site, with the crown becoming fuller as it establishes. The lifted flowering head provides useful height in borders and containers. Regular pruning of the crown helps Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard maintain a balanced shape and produce fresh flowering growth.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard

Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard is ideal for formal gardens, entranceways, feature beds, patio pots, and planting beside paths. The clear stem lifts the golden flowers above lower planting, creating a graceful focal point with excellent structure and colour. Use a pair to frame a doorway or path, or arrange several at even intervals for a classic formal look. Underplant with low flowering plants or neat evergreen foliage to highlight the trunk and crown. Rose 'Graham Thomas' Standard brings height, fragrance, warmth, and long lasting seasonal interest to outdoor spaces.
