Rose 'Color Magic'

How to grow Rose 'Color Magic' in NZ

Rose 'Color Magic' grows best in full sun with fertile, free draining soil and good airflow. Choose a position receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight each day and avoid sites where water sits around the roots. Before planting, work compost or other organic matter into the soil to improve structure and fertility. Water deeply during establishment and through prolonged dry periods, directing moisture to the root zone. Apply a quality rose fertiliser during spring and summer to support healthy growth and flowering. Mulch around the plant to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and help maintain an even root temperature.

Rose 'Color Magic' care tips

Rose 'Color Magic' responds well to regular care through the growing season. Water deeply during dry weather, preferably at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry. Feed with a balanced rose fertiliser from spring through summer, following label directions. Remove spent flowers to encourage further blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. Prune in winter to remove weak, damaged, or crossing stems and to shape the plant for the coming season. Good airflow and regular removal of fallen leaves can help reduce common rose diseases. Mulching annually with compost or organic material will also support healthy soil and vigorous growth.

Rose 'Color Magic' size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'Color Magic' develops into a medium sized shrub with an upright, well branched habit. In good growing conditions it generally reaches around 1 to 1.2 m tall and approximately 80 cm to 1 m wide, although final size will depend on climate, soil, pruning, and general care. Growth is moderate to vigorous during spring and summer. Allow around 80 cm to 1 m between plants to provide good airflow and enough room for each shrub to develop naturally. Regular winter pruning will help maintain a balanced shape, encourage strong new flowering stems, and keep the plant at a manageable size.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'Color Magic'

Rose 'Color Magic' is an excellent landscaping rose for adding changing flower colour and seasonal interest to New Zealand gardens. Use it as a feature plant, through mixed borders, in formal rose beds, cottage gardens, alongside paths, or near patios where the flowers can be appreciated at close range. Its unusual colour transitions make it particularly effective as a focal point. Rose 'Color Magic' can also be combined with low growing perennials or groundcovers that allow good airflow around the base while adding complementary texture.
