Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison'

How to grow Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' in NZ

Grow Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' in full sun with fertile, free draining soil and good airflow. Choose a warm, sheltered position that protects the delicate blooms from heavy rain and strong winds. Enrich the planting area with compost, position the root ball level with the surrounding soil, and water deeply after planting. Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes, especially during warm and dry periods. Apply organic mulch around the base, taking care to keep it clear of the stems and crown.

Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' care tips

Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' benefits from regular feeding, deep watering, and careful grooming. Apply a specialised rose fertiliser in spring and continue feeding through summer according to label directions. Water at soil level to help keep the densely petalled blooms dry, as prolonged wet weather can affect flower quality. Remove spent flowers to encourage repeat blooming. Prune lightly in winter, removing weak, damaged, and crossing stems while retaining a balanced framework. Maintain good airflow and monitor regularly for common rose pests and diseases.

Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' size, spacing, and growth rate

Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' typically grows to about 1.2 m tall and 1 m wide, forming a rounded, spreading shrub. Space plants around 80 cm to 1 m apart to allow the canopy to develop naturally and maintain good airflow. Growth is moderate, with the strongest development occurring through spring and summer. Regular feeding, consistent moisture, and light pruning help maintain a healthy, well shaped plant. Its manageable proportions make this rose suitable for garden borders, dedicated rose beds, and larger decorative containers.

Landscaping uses for Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison'

Rose 'Souvenir De La Malmaison' is ideal for cottage gardens, rose beds, mixed borders, courtyard gardens, and fragrant planting near outdoor living areas.
