What is Teucrium hircanicum used for?

Teucrium hircanicum, also known as Iranian wood sage or purple wood sage, is primarily used as an ornamental plant in garden settings. Valued for its upright spikes of deep purple to magenta flowers and attractive, slightly hairy green foliage, it adds vertical interest and vibrant colour to borders, cottage gardens, and naturalistic planting schemes. It is especially useful for attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making it a great addition to wildlife-friendly landscapes. This hardy perennial thrives in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, and its low-maintenance nature makes it suitable for gardeners seeking resilient plants that offer long-lasting summer blooms. Teucrium hircanicum also pairs well with grasses and other drought-tolerant perennials in dry or Mediterranean-style gardens.
